Oldest White Settlement
at Carrying Place
South of Trenton at Carrying Place you are treading
the route of generations of Native explorers, settlers
and soldiers. This ancient portage route between Lake
Ontario and the Bay of Quinte, is the oldest road in
Ontario. Here, in 1668, the first white settlement
was established.
