The Colborne Art Gallery

Don't forget to visit the Art Gallery in the attractive old Registry Office. A visit in the spring during the Apple Blossom Tyme Festival will give you a sense of the continuing importance of agriculture to the area.

The Colborne Art Gallery is the home of the Colborne Society of Artists.which was founded in the spring of 1997 It is located in the historic East Northumberland Land Registry Office ewhich had been sold by the provincial government to the village of Colborne for the sum of $8.00, on condition that it be maintained as a museum or library. A proposed that the building become an art gallery was made by Wilhelmina Kennedy, a Dutch immigrant then living in neighbouring Cramahe Township. This suggestion that was welcomed by the Colborne Village Council. A group of local artists was organized by Wilhelmina into a co-operative to be known as The Colborne Society of Artists. The Society has succeeded in breathing new life and usefulness into this heritage building.

The Colborne Art Gallery is a member of the Arts Council of Northumberland.
